SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO.17

Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to conduct an interim study of the West Virginia Archeological Curation Program.

Whereas, The Legislature recognizes the seriousness of the loss and deterioration of West Virginia's archeological collections for which the code of West Virginia requires proper care, maintenance and management; and
Whereas, It is the responsibility of the Legislature to see to the proper preservation of West Virginia's archeological collections, as they are a significant part of the state's cultural heritage; and
Whereas, The urgency of the problems that exist with the West
Virginia archaeological collections cannot be fully examined within the sixty-day regular session of the Legislature; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby requested to review, examine and study, during the interim of the Legislature, the statutory mandate of the West Virginia Archeological Curation Program; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 2000, on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be paid from the legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance.
